Container Facility Appointment Purchase

A Montgomery Twp. issued Container Facility Appointment, tied to specific available date/time, must be made when you buy your access to enter the Container Facility. The cost of making an appointment is $10 for one (1) trip. 

How to Purchase and Make an Appointment Time

Submit the online Container Facility Application Form, selecting your appointment time.  Once you pay $10 by debit or credit card you will receive an automatic email stating you are approved for your 15 minute appointment time. (Note: There is a $3 convenience charge.)

The other payment option is to come in person and bring $10 cash (exact change only) or a $10 check to the Montgomery Township Clerks Office in the Municipal Center between 8AM and 4:15PM at 100 Community Drive, Skillman, NJ 08558. Call (908) 359-8211 ext. 2279. 

Appointments via the webform may now be made up to the day of use, as available. 

Proof of residency may be required at time of appointment.  You may choose to print out and bring your confirmation email, but DPW will have a record of your appointment time.

If you have the 'old style' physical coupon to use, please call DPW at (908) 874-3144 M-F 7:30a to 3p to set up your appointment time in advance. (Physical coupons are no longer being issued but those already purchased do not expire.)

Payment Not Required for These Three Categories

Call (908) 874-3144 to make a non-payment appointment.  Residents have access to the Container Facility, by non-paid appointment only, for the sole purpose of discarding material in the following 3 categories: 

1. Brush / Branches – individual pieces cannot be larger than 4 inches in diameter and pieces cannot exceed 4 feet in length.  Material must be free of fence posts and other wood products.  No leaves or grass clippings.
2. Used Motor Oil may be disposed of at the Container Facility and also disposed of through both the Somerset County Hazardous Waste Program.  The containers used to transport motor oil are not recyclable and should be disposed of in your regular garbage according to Somerset County waste management guidelines.  Do not leave such containers, full or empty, at the Container Facility.
3. Designated Metal Items include hot water heaters, washers & dryers, refrigerators, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, grills, metal patio furniture, bedframes, wagons & lawn mowers.

If other material is included in addition to the above categories, appointment purchase is required to enter the Container Facility.

Container Facility Rules

• The Container Facility is available to Montgomery Township Residents only.
• Utility trailers bigger than 4 ft. by 8 ft. are not allowed.

Commercial vehicles or commercial trucks require a One-Time Special Permit

• One-Time Special Permit enables residents to use a commercial vehicle at the Container Facility.
• The fee is $40 and is for a one-time-only per year occurrence.
• Call the Township Clerks Office at (908) 359-8211 ext. 2279 to arrange this purchase.
• All materials must be listed on the One-Time Special Permit; only those materials listed will be accepted.
• The One-Time Special Permit must be presented upon entering the Container Facility or access will be denied.
