On 9/12/2017 an elderly Montgomery Township resident hired a carpet cleaning company, based in Edison, NJ, to clean the carpets in her home. Several days later the resident noticed 3 checks had been stolen from her checkbook. The victim contacted her bank and found two of the checks had already been cashed for a total of $600.00.
MTPD Detectives conducted follow-up investigation with the bank and identified an individual as Marc Lahens, 30 years of age, of Asbury Park, NJ had cashed the checks. Further investigation with the complete cooperation of the carpet cleaning company revealed Lahens was in fact a member of the carpet cleaning crew that cleaned the victim’s carpets.
On 9/27/2017 MTPD Detectives located Lahens and obtained a full confession from him regarding theft investigation. Lahens was charged with theft and theft by deception. The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office remanded the charges against Lahens to Municipal Court. Lahens was released on his own recognizance.
