Montgomery Night Out – Tues., April 18Posted on April 7, 2017
“Slow down and enjoy life. It’s not only the scenery you miss by going too fast – you also miss the sense of where you are going and why.” – Eddie Cantor
You may have already seen signs along Rt. 206 advertising Montgomery’s “Night Out.” This annual event recognizes that our family life can get hectic; and sometimes, it’s good to relax and take a night off to be with our loved ones. The event is sponsored by the Montgomery Municipal Alliance. However, it is enabled by the School District which asks teachers to give a break on big projects for the night and not schedule any tests for the next day. The event is supported by our local restaurant proprietors who provide special discounts at their establishments.
This year, the night off will be Tuesday, April 18th. This night is the first day back to school after spring break. A complete list of restaurants providing discounts is in the attached flyer. Please download and print the flyer to receive your discount.
Another note about why we do this each year: The New Jersey Governor’s Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse (GCADA) supports alcohol and drug prevention efforts in communities throughout our State, in part, by funding Municipal Alliance programs. The Montgomery Municipal Alliance is a board comprised of concerned citizens, professionals in the field of prevention, community and school leaders, the police and local health departments. The Alliance’s objectives are to monitor alcohol and drug use statistics in our community, raise awareness of related issues or increased abuse, and direct targeted (local) efforts so that the State’s resources are used most effectively toward prevention. One goal of sponsoring the Night Out is to raise the community’s awareness of the Alliance program.
While the main purpose of the Night Out is just to relax and to spend time with your family, the Alliance wishes to encourage any parent that is concerned about their children’s exposure to alcohol and drugs to talk to them about this during this undistracted evening. Start a conversation if needed, but please don’t let this get in the way of the spirit of the night; which is to slow down and enjoy your family life!
