1. Don't ignore the problem. The sooner you reach out for help, the sooner the problem can be resolved. Don't wait! 2. Contact your lender as soon as possible. Foreclosure can be devastating for both the lender and the borrower. Talk to your lender and try to work with them. 3. Open and respond to all mail from your lender. Failure to open your mail does not make the problem go away. Staying informed will better equip you for reaching a resolution that best meets the needs of you and yoru family. 4. Know your mortgage rights. Read
your loan documents so you will know what your lender may do if you cannot
make your payments. Learn about foreclosure laws and time-frames. Valuable information about foreclosure prevention options, also called loss mitigation, can be found on the web. 6. Prioritize your spending. Keeping your house should be at the top of your priority list. Review your finances and see where you can cut back in order to satisfy your mortgage obligation. 7. Who to Contact The Hope Hotline 1-888-995-HOPE offers free, confidential help and assistance to homeowners with mortgage problems 24 hours a day/7 days a week in English and Spanish.
