Municipal Budget Highlights (An Archive)
The
2008 Municipal tax rate is .030, or thirty cents per $100 value.
The 2008
Municipal tax increase is approximately $214 on a home assessed
at the township average of $510,100. The chart below provides
a break down of various increases:
The
total municipal budget for 2008 is $27.95 million. The 2007
municipal budget was $26.84 million. The municipal budget includes
public safety (police), public health, planning, engineering,
code enforcement, public works (roads & parks), recreation,
municipal court, capital programs (for road overlays, heavy
equipment, open space, etc.), debt service and administration.
To
calculate your municipal taxes for 2008, multiply the assessed
value of your home times .003. (Note, this does not include
taxes for public schools, county services, fire district, county
library system or open space.)
The
Township Committee held five public meetings between February
and June in which details of the budget were discussed at length
and time was set aside for public comment. The municipal budget
was adopted June 19.
Our
tax office had to send out estimated tax bills because the County
was unable to certify the final tax rate (due to questions about
State aid to municipalities) in time for the township to meet
its deadline for sending out tax bills. The township could not
postpone its deadline without incurring added costs, which would
not be in the best interest of taxpayers. The County has since
certified the tax rate, and it is very nearly identical to the
estimated rate.
Montgomery’s
municipal tax on a home assessed at the Township average of
$510,100 remain lower than those of Hillsborough, Plainsboro,
Princeton or West Windsor.
